“weltwärts” Volunteers of DED (GIZ)
Since 2008 the German development Service “DED” (nowadays: GIZ) has dispateched volunteers from Germany, who participate in the program “weltwärts”. In Nepal the DED cooperates with NeGFA (Nepal German Friendship Association) to guide the volunteers and to prepare them in an orientation seminar for life and work in the projects.
For a while, Kaule e.V., as well, has been supported by “weltwärts” volunteers.
Kira Schoop
“Hello, I’m Kira, the first volunteer of the DED at the project Kaule e.V.! For half a year I got the chance to live and do some volunteer work at Kaule in the Nouwakot district. I got to know the Nepalese agriculture and the cooperation with the farmers of the project offered me special impressions and interesting insights. In this way for example I got to feel that the Tamangs (the mostly common ethnic group here) are cooking with a lot of chili quite spicy! I’ve seeded and planted various plants here, like beans, cucumber, rice and tomatoes; have helped with the strawberry harvesting (yummy!) and all this regardless of wind and weather, sharp sun and pouring rain – and of course a lot of fresh air, which you are missing in Kathmandu! In the project of Alina and Kaule e.V. there is something to do for everybody, weather you like to be goatherd alias Heidi, you are interested in beekeeping, ducks or chicken, you can speak with flowers or you want to rum riot as a herbs witch in the garden behind the kitchen. There is always something to do with coloring, pottering about or watering (at least off rainy season!). In short: It’s never getting boring!”
Catharina Becker and Sarah Holzgreve
Since September 16th there are two new “weltwärts” volunteers working in the project. Sarah and Ina (Catharina) will stay there for one year and will be acting in different working areas: Sarah will support the farmers on their farms, assist at the demo center and take care of the animals. Ina will assist at the demo center as well and be engaged in the documentation, take photos and write small articles. With it the website, the facebook profile, the google group and the flickr photo albums will be updated
Julia Maurer
“This February I got the chance to take over the position of Catharina Becker. Like all “weltwärts” volunteers I have arrived in Nepal the past September and have been living in a calm small village in Terai for the last months. At my previous partner organization I just could engage myself in a very limited area, so after many discussions and efforts I decided to look for new challenges. The fact that I landed in the ambitious and lively project of Kaule e.V. is really great. It’s enriching that after my experiences in the south of the country in a community of Brahmins, I get to know the social life of Tamang and Sherpa in a hilly area – quite deep insights in that different living environments… and all that within one year! And in addition all the various tasks which the demo center offers: together with the goats, ducks, chicken, farmers, photos, articles, websites. So I get the chance for a perfect balance between working at the computer and in the fresh air. For half a year I will stay here now and I’m looking forward to learn a lot, to take out a lot and to contribute as much as possible to the project work.”
